Enter the “Micro-Kitchen”

Just because you have a small space to work with doesn’t mean you don’t still deserve a well-designed, fully-functional kitchen. With so many people downsizing, space is at a premium. As millennials set out on their own, leaving college and looking for jobs, they often have to adapt to smaller living spaces. On the other end of the generational spectrum, baby-boomers are also downsizing their lifestyles as they retire, moving into smaller spaces now that the kids have left the nest. Still, they must find some way to have a functional, enjoyable kitchen.
So what does a kitchen need? It needs modes of cooking- stovetop, oven, microwave. It needs a station for cleaning- ranging anywhere from a sink to a full dishwasher. It needs cold storage- refrigerator, freezer. And it needs dry storage- plates, utensils, dry goods, unused appliances. Jamming all of these components into a space will still keep everything at your fingertips; all you have to do is pivot in the tight, hot, claustrophobic space you’ve created, sequestered away from your guests and family. Trying to fit a generic kitchen design into a small space can be a disaster- making this important space a thorn in your side rather than the warm and inviting heart of your home that it should be.
